여행 중 만난 사람들 78 – 진짜 친구와 가짜 친구

  (사람 만나기 좋아하고 대화를 좋아하다 보니 별의별 경우를 다 본다.)
  
  흔히들 한국인들은 정(情)이 많다고 한다. 그래서인지 한국인들은 어떤 그룹에 속하면 그 순간부터 호칭이 달라진다. 형님, 아우님, 선배님, 후배님, 김형, 박형, 언니, 동생…등.
  
  이 호칭에는 이미 끈끈한 우정의 끈이 연결됐음을 상징한다. 친구 관계가 급조된 것이다. 마치 간. 쓸개를 다 떼어줘도 아깝지 않은 것처럼 말하고 행동한다. 여기까지 보면 이는 분명 소중한 친구 관계다.
  
  근데 이처럼 절친한 친구처럼 보이는 그들 사이에 있을 수 없는 금단의 선이 그어져 있다. 누구나 특히 인생을 한 50년 이상 살아본 사람이라면 자신만의 정치적 이념, 성향이 있게 마련인데 이것을 선뜻 밝히지 못한다. 특히 좌파(左派)에 비해 우파(右派)가 더하다.
  
  유유상종(類類相從)이라고, 끼리끼리 모이는 것은 인간 사회, 아니 생태계(生態系)의 일종의 생존 본능이다. 이곳에 금단 선은 없다. 정치적 발언을 마음놓고 해도 된다는 의미이다. 마음이 같은 사람, 즉 친구끼리 만났으니 오히려 맘 놓고 속 시원히 정치적 발언과 의견을 틀어놓게 된다. 오늘 기분이 확 풀리는 것이다. 이것이 진짜 친구다.
  
  인간은 정치적 동물이다. 정치를 벗어나 하루도 못 산다. 그럼에도 정치적 견해를 밝힐 수 없는 친구들이라면 이들은 가짜 친구이다. 다른 필요 때문에 만날 뿐이다. 목적이 아닌 수단이다. 수단은 그 기능을 다 하면 폐기(廢棄)된다. 친구가 수단이 될 수 없는 이유이다.

  (I notice good friends and bad friends through meeting and talking with many people.)
  
  It is often said that Koreans are warm-hearted people. Maybe so. When Koreans belong to a group, they soon become close friends. From that moment they call to each other as follow: my brother, my sister, my senior, my junior, Mr. Kim, Mr. Park…And so on.
  
  It means that a strong bond of friendship got connected. It shows intimacy as if they give every thing they have to each other. From this point of view, they definitely made a precious friendship.
  
  However, I discover that those who seem to be close friends like this also have a forbidden line among them. I mean especially anyone who has lived at least half of their lives, who has their own political spectrum and tendencies can tell to his friends freely.
  
  They like each other's company because birds of a feather flock together. In this case, there is no reason not to say his own political remarks freely. People of the like-minded should feel free to have conversations. It's more fun and rewarding to strengthen intimacy. It's I think a real friendship.
  
  Man is a political animal. We can't live a day out of the political rule or system. Nevertheless, if we can't express our own political views, we are not true friends. We just meet only by necessity. In other words, it's a means, not an aim. Friends can never be a means and should be a purpose.

  It reminds me of what Raymond Aron said:
  
  “These days, it is difficult to maintain friendship if the political spectrum are different.”
