근거(根據)는 유엔개발기구, 세계은행, 이코노미스트지, 포춘지, 사회진보지수(社會進步指數), 국가브랜드 인덱스, 국제투명기구(國際透明機構) 등 여러 국제기구(國際機構)와 매체(媒體) 등에서 발표하는 자료(2015~2020)들이다.

자료1) 문화 부문에 대한 호감도(好感度) 순위는 1위가 프랑스, 이어서 이탈리아, 영국, 독일, 미국, 스페인, 러시아, 일본, 중국, 브라질, 호주, 캐나다, 스웨덴, 네덜란드, 오스트리아(15위)였다.

자료2) 국민(國民)에 대한 호감도에선 캐나다 사람들이 1등이었다. 이어서 호주, 이탈리아, 스웨덴, 스위스-영국, 독일, 일본, 스페인, 뉴질랜드, 프랑스, 네덜란드, 미국, 노르웨이-스코틀랜드(공동 14위)였다.

대한민국(大韓民國)을 포함한 세계사(世界史)의 주인공(主人公)들에게는 공통점이 있다. 거의 다 기독교(Christianity) 문화와 밀접한 관련이 있다(참고: 國父 이승만은 독실篤實한 기독교인이자 철저한 반공주의자反共主義者). 기독교의 모체(母體)는 헤브라이즘(Hellenism)에 있다고 볼 때 그렇다. 모세(Moses)가 등장하면서 이집트 왕국과 갈등을 갖게 되고, 사울(Saul)이 헤브라이 왕국을 세우고 3대代 솔로몬(Solomon) 왕이 죽자 헤브라이 왕국은 이스라엘과 유다로 분열된다. 1948년 5월14일 팔레스타인에 이스라엘 국호(國號)를 걸고 건국(建國)을 선포할 때까지 2500여 년 동안 세계사에 크고 작은 영향을 끼쳤다. 로마제국의 기독교 박해(迫害)로 엄청난 규모의 카타콤(Catacom)을 비롯해 종교문화를 심화(深化)시켰고, 마침내 기독교를 국교(國敎)로 받아들임으로써 국가 경영의 효율성에 기여했다. 십자군 전쟁과 신·구교(新·舊敎)의 갈등과 전쟁 그리고 게르만계 바이킹과 노르만이 기독교를 받아들임으로써 본격적으로 다방면(多方面)의 과학문명 발달에 기여함으로서 오늘에 이른다.

가령, 기독교 사상과 문화를 기반(基盤)으로 하는 다양한 분야에서의 활동이 그렇다. 마르코 폴로, 마테오리치, 콜럼부스 등의 역할, 종교개혁(宗敎改革)과 르네상스 그리고 시민혁명과 산업혁명의 주역들이 그렇고, 전 세계에 파견되어 교육, 의료 등을 지원한 수도사(修道會)와 선교사들, 이들의 역할은 결국 소련을 필두로 하는 공산주의 확산을 막는 데에도 깊은 관련이 있다. 인종주의(人種主義) 나치즘과 파시즘 그리고 군국주의(軍國主義)가 주도한 세계 제 1, 2차 대전(大戰)과 태평양 전쟁을 종식시키는 데에도 결정적 역할을 했다. 덕택에 大韓民國을 포함 100여 개국은 식민지배(植民支配)로부터 해방되고 독립됐다. 여전히 기독교 문화권이 지속적으로 인류人類 보편적 가치인 자유, 인권, 복지 등의 발전에 앞장서고 있음을 부인할 수 없다. 이들 국가의 대부분이 미국을 중심으로 한 기독교 문화와 문명을 근간(根幹)으로 하는 국가들이다. (최소한 오바마 정권이 들어선 이전과 시진핑 집권 이전엔 그랬다.)

이 국가들의 공통점은 자유민주(自由民主)주의와 시장 경제 시스템을 채택한 국가들이다. 물론 복지 선진국들이다. 기독교 국가들로서 세계 문화유산을 가장 많이 산출(産出) 보유하고 있다. 전 세계의 관광 자원(資源)들 가운데 기독교 문화의 산물産物인 성당(聖堂)등 건축물과 미술, 조각, 음악, 연극 그리고 문학을 빼버리면 상위(上位) 문화의 개념인 관광 상품과 자원이 크게 위축(萎縮)되어 관광산업 자체가 저질화(低質化)될 수도 있다.

세계 역사를 주도(主導)한 민족과 국가들은 이동(移動)을 많이 하는 민족이며 또한 기독교 문화와 깊은 관련이 있다. 개방적이고 진취적이다. 전쟁을 두려워하지 않으며 명예(名譽)를 존중하고 결과에 승복(承服)한다. 모험심과 탐험심이 많고 여행을 많이 한다. 이론(理論)보다 실천(實踐)과 경험(經驗)을 중시하는 실용주의자다. 논리적이고 합리적이다. 토론문화(討論文化)에 익숙하다. 계약과 신용을 매우 중시한다. 청빈사상(淸貧思想)보다 청부사상(淸富思想)을 토대로 한 자본주의 산실(産室)이다. 사례(事例)는 다음과 같다.

고대(古代) 에게문명, 크레타문명, 미케네문명, 페니키아와 카르타고…바빌로니아, 이집트, 페르시아, 마케도니아, 그리스, 로마, 게르만과 바이킹과 노르만, 포르투갈, 스페인, 오스트리아, 네덜란드, 영국, 프랑스, 미국 등이다. 산업혁명과 시민혁명의 후발주자(後發走者)로 등장해 뒤늦게 근대화(近代化)에 성공한 독일, 이태리, 일본, 러시아 등이 그렇다. 마지막 주자로 근대화에 뛰어들어 경제강국(經濟强國)을 이루고 자유민주주의(自由民主主義) 국가를 완성한 나라가 있다. 근.현대사(近.現代史)에 신기록을 남겼다. 전 세계가 놀란 역사적 사건이다. 그 주인공(主人公)은 大韓民國이다.

성경(聖經)에는 다음과 같은 말씀이 있다.

"여행을 많이 한 사람은 아는 것이 많고, 경험이 많은 사람은 지각 있게 말하리라. 시련을 겪지 않은 사람은 아는 것이 적지만 여행을 많이 한 사람은 모든 일에 능통하다. 나는 여행하면서 많은 것을 보았지만 내가 배운 것을 말로 다 표현할 수는 없다. 나는 여러 번 죽을 고비를 당했지만, 내가 쌓은 경험의 덕으로 살아났다.”-집회서 34장 9절-13

기독교(基督敎)를 세계적 종교라고 하는 데에는 그만한 이유가 있는 것 같다. 기독교의 핵심 가운데 하나인 자유(自由)가 국가, 국민, 민족, 인종, 연령, 성별에 관계없이 전 세계적으로 보편적 가치로서 공유(共有)되고 있기 때문이다. 내가 전세계(全世界)를 자유롭게 여행할 수 있는 것도 그렇다. 세계인들을 만나 대화를 나눌 수 있는 것도, 세계적 박물관과 유적지에서 천재들과 영웅들의 작품과 발자취를 감상할 수 있는 것도 다 알고 보면 이 자유라는 것이 있기에 가능한 것이다.

부부(夫婦) 배낭여행을 통해 많은 경험을 한 것 중 하나가 바로 기독교 문화였다. 전 세계에 흩어져 있는 엄청난 기독교 문화의 유적지(遺蹟地)와 그 문화를 직접 경험한 것은 큰 행운이었다. 모든 선진국들은 거의 다 기독교 문화에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다는 것도 그렇지만, 오늘날 이들이 이룩한 과학 등 전역(全域)에 걸친 위업(偉業)을 빼 놓고는 나를 포함한 세계인들이 누리는 현대문명의 혜택(惠澤)을 설명할 길이 없다는 것이 나의 생각이다. 이런 의미에서 나는 내나라 大韓民國은 물론 전 세계의 모든 자유민주주의(自由民主主義) 국가에 진심(眞心)으로 감사(感謝)를 드립니다.

There is something in common with the leaders of world history including Korea. Almost all of them are closely related to the Christianity culture (cf: founder, Syngman Rhee is a devout Christian and a thorough anti-communist). The mother of Christianity is in Hellenism. Contents: Moses comes into conflict with the Kingdom of Egypt, and Saul establishes the Hebrew kingdom. When the third King Solomon died, the Hebrew kingdom was divided into Israel and Judah. Since then, the Jews have had little or no impact on world history for more than 2,500 years, until May 14, 1948, when they proclaimed Israel as the nation of Israel in Palestine. The Christian persecution of the Roman Empire deepened religious culture, including the enormous catacombs. Finally, Rome contributed to the efficiency of national management by accepting Christianity as a national religion. They then contributed to the development of a multi-faceted scientific civilization by accepting Christianity from the Crusades, Conflict and Civil War, and the Germanic Vikings and Norman. (At least that was the case before the Obama administration and the Xi‘s power of C.C.P.)

Christianity, for example, prevented the spread of communism, led by Marco Polo, Matteo Ricci and Columbus, religious reforms and renaissance, civil revolution and industrial revolution, monasteries and missionaries who supported the education and medical care of the whole world, and the Soviet Union. They also ended World War I, World War II and the Pacific War, led by racist Nazism, fascism and militarism. Thanks to these, more than 100 countries, including the Republic of Korea, were liberated from colonial rule and became independent. They continue to lead the development of universal human values such as love, freedom, human rights and welfare. Most of these countries are Christian countries centered on the United States.

These countries are liberal democratic states. They are also developed countries in welfare. These are the Christian nations that produce and retain the world's greatest cultural heritage. So, among the tourism resources of the world, the products of Christian culture are influential. For example, if architecture, art, sculpture, music, drama, and literature are omitted, tourism products and resources, which are the concept of upper-level culture, will sharply decrease and the tourism industry itself will become poor and low quality.

The people who led the history of the world are people who have a lot of mobile movements, and they are deeply related to the Christian culture. They are open and progressive. They are also not afraid of war, respecting honor and conferring on results. And they have a lot of adventure, exploration and travel. They are pragmatists who value practice and experience rather than theory. They are logical and rational, and are familiar with the discussion culture. And they value contract and credit very much. These are the chambers of production of capitalism based on honest riches, rather than the honest poor. The case examples are as follows.

Ancient Greek Aegean civilization, Cretan(Mycenaean, Phenicia and Carthage...) civilization. Babylonia, Egypt, Persia, Macedonia, Rome, Germania, Vikings and Norman, Portugal, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France and the USA. These are Germany, Italy, Japan, and Russia, which have emerged as a successor to the industrial revolution and civil revolution after modernization. There is an exception. It is the last runner to jump into modernization, to form the economic power and to complete the liberal democracy. They left a new record in modern history. It’s a historical event that amazes the whole world. The name of the glory is the Republic of Korea.

“ A much travelled man knows many things, and a man of great experience will talk sound sense. Someone who has never had his trials knows little; but the travelled man is master of every situation. I have seen many things on my travels, I have understood more than I can put into words. I have often been in danger of death, but I have been spared, and this is why:” Ecclesiasticus 34-9

It is said that the Christianity is the world religion. I think so, too. As the world religion, the Christian culture and civilization have been definitely sharing their Christian doctrines with the people all of the world regardless of nations, races, ages and genders. Thanks to their efforts to keep freedom, I could enjoy my world traveling, talking with them, visiting museums, watching all kinds of their arts including fine arts, sculptures, architecture, historic cites and so on.

Due to my backpacking abroad with my wife, I recognized the huge difference between Christian culture and the other religions. I have never felt so high that all the advanced countries scattered all of the world are from the Christian religion. They have lead all kinds of cultures and civilizations everyone uses as well as my country, Korea. I am wholeheartedly grateful for those who worked hard for not only my country, Korea but also all the nations all over the world.
