참새가 방앗간을 그냥 지날 순 없는 일. ‘카사블랑카 어시장'을 찾았다. 이곳은 부산(釜山) 자갈치 시장이나 노량진 수산(水産) 시장과 같은 곳이다. 물론 그 규모로 본다면 한국 어시장(魚市場)은 이곳 카사의 어시장과는 비교가 안 된다. 이곳 카사의 항구는 대서양(大西洋) 최대의 어장(漁場)을 관장한다는 국제적 규모다.

아쉽게도 내가 어시장에 도착했을 땐 이미 새벽시장이 끝난 상태였다. 새벽에 나왔어야 했는데, 안타깝지만 어쩌랴. 그래도 아쉬움이 남아 공판장(共販場) 내에 들어가 보니 아직 각종 생선이 상자에 혹은 비스듬히 설치된 좌판(坐板) 위에 겹겹이 쌓여 있다. 일단 바다 냄새가 좋고 바다 생선이면 그냥 보기만 해도 기분이 좋으니 늦어도 오긴 잘했다 싶었다.

대형(大刑) 장어와 상어 등 이름도 알 수 없는 별의별 바닷물고기들이 전시장(展示場)을 방불케 한다. 방대(尨大)하다. 아니나 다를까 물고기를 보는 순간 생선회(生鮮膾)를 먹고 싶은 조건반사(條件反射) 작용이 일어났다. 그러나 어쩔 것인가. 침만 삼킬 수밖에. 안 되겠다 싶어 곧장 수산시장 입구의 식당가로 달려갔다. 그러나 횟감은 없었다. 있을 리도 없다. 그들은 날생선을 먹지 않기 때문이다.

섭섭하지만 할 수 없는 일. 튀김 생선으로 족할 수밖에. 항구에선 방금 들어온 어선(漁船)들이 멸치 같은 어린 물고기들을 옮겨 싣느라 분주하다. 10여 명이 동시에 그물을 잡고 호흡에 맞춰 소리를 지르며 그물에 걸린 물고기들을 탈탈 털어내는 모습은 어쩌면 세계 공통인 것 같다. 재미있는 구경거리다. 이 어시장의 청결(淸潔) 상태는 선진국형(先進國型)으로 손색(遜色)이 없어 보였다.

숙소로 되돌아가는 길에 역(驛)에 들렀다. 내일쯤 마라케시에 갈 생각으로 기차 시간표를 알아보기 위해서다. 창구에 문의해 보니 예매나 예약은 불필요하단다. 몇몇 여행사에 들러 튀니지를 포함한 콩고 케냐 에티오피아행 에어 티켓도 알아보았다. 마음 같아선 이번에 에티오피아와 콩고는 꼭 가고 싶은데… 그러나 솔직히 아직 자신이 없다. 눈을 찔끔 감기로 했다. <계속>

People met on my backpacking 103

Just as a sparrow can't pass by a mill, I couldn't pass it up as a fish lover. So, next place to go see was 'Casablanca Fishery Market'.

It was just like Pusan Jagalchi Market or Noryangjin Fishery Market. Of course, in the scale, I couldn’t compare the Korean fishery market to the fishery market here. The port of Casa, which oversees the Atlantic's largest fishing ground, was an international scale.

Unfortunately, when I arrived at the fish market, the early morning market was already over. When I entered the wholesale market, various kind of fishes were stacked on a box or on an oblique seating plate. Well, though late, I thought it was good for me to come here because the smell of the sea and sea fish make me feel good just by looking at them.

I couldn't tell what kind of those a large variety of saltwater fish, such as super large eels and sharks and so on. As I expected, the moment I saw the fish, the condition reflexes that I wanted to eat the raw fish occurred. But there was no such possibility. So, I went straight to the restaurant at the entrance to the fish market. However, they had no sense of raw fish. They didn’t eat raw fish.

So, I tried fried fish. In the harbor, the fishermen who just came in were busy carrying young fish like anchovies. At the same time, about ten people held the net, shouted at the breath, and shook off the fish caught in the net. The way they worked was probably global. It was a fun. The cleanliness of this fish market was good enough.

Stopped at the station on my way back to the hostel. Wanted to check the train time to Marrakech tomorrow. They told me I didn’t need reservations. I stopped by a couple of travel agencies to see air tickets to Congo, Kenya and Ethiopia, including Tunisia. I really wanted to go see Ethiopia and the Congo this time. But honestly, I was not sure to try it yet. I decided not to think of them this time.
