People met on my backpacking (240) - International marriage and cultural feeling

During my trip to the United States, I met many Korean residents in various cities such as LA, Rialto, Orange County, New York, Chicago, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Atlanta, Virginia, Washington DC, Seattle, Maryland, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Utah, etc. These places had good educational environments, large Korean companies, developed commercial areas, and good climates. The supermarkets were full of Korean food ingredients, In particular, some seafood and vegetables there were rare things in Korea. Felt great. (*It was due to the success of my motherland.)

Korea's international marriages have significantly changed since the era of internationalization and openness began around 1990. Before that, Korean women often immigrated to the U.S., a rich country. However, Korea's rapid growth since 1990 has reversed this culture, with people from rich European countries, including the U.S. and Japan, marrying Koreans. This shift has led to a potential cultural conflict, as women from poorer countries now marry in Korea. It means that despite the challenges, the country's commitment to living well is essential for its future.

International marriage can be a challenging and often devastating issue, often leading to divorce. Cultural shock and incomprehension are the main causes, especially when joining other cultures after adulthood. These differences in environment and emotions can cause emotional turmoil, but they can be overcome with effort and love. Language and food issues are less likely to lead to divorce unless love and trust are lost. The decisive factor in this situation is the difference in emotions between communityism and individualism. Korean culture, for example, is emotional and ambiguous, while the United States is rational and transparent. These conflicting cultural emotions can lead to conflict, leading to divorce, as seen in many Korean residents living in different states.

A few examples are shown below.

A) A woman from Rialto made friends with an American man while studying in the U.S. and married him after finishing his studies. After marrying in Korea and working in the U.S., she settled down with a sincere and caring husband who had two children, no financial problems, and no issues with his in-laws. He understood her preference for Korean food and tried to familiarize himself with Korean culture. He was a model father and husband who played well with his children. A caring husband claimed his wife violated his right to make decisions, including eating, going, and resting. He felt that his wife's choices were not acceptable, highlighting the importance of autonomy.

B) a woman living in Payetteville, has been in the U.S. for over 30 years. She married him after dating him in Korea. After returning home, he completed his service and was discharged after 10 years. He had a stable family with three children and a strong military spirit. He attended events like Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day, adhering to strict rules. One day, he spoke with a serious look, claiming his wife had ignored his independent thinking and judgment. Saying that she stopped him from attending a Memorial Day event due to his tired face.
