[º¸°í¼]¡°With Japan rapidly moving to expand defense capabilities, including long-range counterstrike, the need for connective tissue between the U.S.-Japan and the U.S.-ROK alliances is greater than ever before. Following the Camp David meetings in August 2023, structures of trilateral dialogue at the strategic level are in place. The allies should now move to establish formal connections at the operational level, including through exchanges of liaison officers at respective commands, the inclusion of observers at bilateral exercises, and the establishment of a trilateral contingency planning cell.¡±

[Á¸½ºÅæ ¼®ÁÂ]¡°This is about the idea that Korea brings real capability to the table and should be part of the conversation about how to respond to global issues. It also brings responsibility. So in our view, this would require that Korea be prepared to shoulder more global leadership. But I think it's time. And our report also calls for Australia to be also at it.¡±

[Á¸½ºÅæ ¼®ÁÂ]¡°The significance is that it's good for deterrence and stability in Northeast Asia. A strong U.S.-Japan relationship is critical to deterrence because it sends the message to China, to North Korea, that the U.S. and Japan stand resolved to respond to two threats. And there's not a seam or difference that can be exploited. So that's, I think, the key message here. The U.S.,-Japan relationship is at a point of historic strength. That's also true of the U.S. ROK relationship. So part of the agenda, I think it will be part of the White House conversation with Kishida will be about continuing to strengthen the trilateral relationship with ROK as well.¡±
