[ÇÁ¸£Áö½ºÅÓ ¼®ÁÂ]¡°It seems to me that both sides are slowly inching toward some kind of meeting and the way they've set up conditions. (Áß·«) So again, Both sides seem to be exploring the possibility. (Áß·«) And again, to my mind, a summit meeting that is not able to advance the abductions issue would be, I think, in Japan, seen as a diplomatic as well as a political failure. So you know, I think we'll have to wait and see. But so again the essence of any summit from Japanese point is resolving the abductees issue and I'm not sure that's going to be realizable in the context of the present framework for a summit.¡±

[µðÆ®¶ó´Ï Àü Â÷¼®´ëÇ¥]¡°For Japan, solving the abduction of Japanese nationals by North Korea is of paramount importance to Prime Minister Kishida and his predecessors. I think Japan would be open to a summit with Kim Jong Un but only if the abduction issue could also be included in the discussions, while not insisting on making the nuclear and missile issues the core issues. Thus the abduction issue need not be an obstacle to a bilateral summit, but it would, in my view, have to be part of the discussions at the summit.¡±

[¿ÍÀÏ´õ Àü ¼±ÀÓ±¹Àå]¡°I think it would be very foolish of the Japanese Prime Minister to accept the visit to North Korea without a prior agreement on the abduction issue.
The Japanese public expects that any Japanese leader going to North Korea will make significant progress on the issue. His polling is not high enough to sustain him if he goes to North Korea and gets no progress, so it is vital that the Japanese, before they go, have a prior understanding with the North Koreans.
