미국 일본을 포함 선진국 사람들은 알면서도 행동을 하지 않는 건 비겁한 이중인격자(二重人格者)로 취급한다. 인요한 혁신 위원장의 인터뷰를 듣고

나는 평소 한국인에 대한 극찬의 평가에 회의(懷疑)적이다. 듣기에 매우 거북하다. 그중 하나가 한국인은 IQ가 세계 제일이라는 것. 일반적 표현으로는, 한국인은 다 똑똑하다. 한국인은 다 머리가 좋다. 한국인들은 모르는 게 없다. 한국인은 눈치가 빠르다. 한국인은 어떤 환경에 던져놓아도 살아남는다…등. 이런 표현들을 나는 외국인들과의 대화에서도 자주 듣고 설명을 하면서도 께름직했다. 상식적으로나 논리적으로 안 맞는 부분이 너무 많기 때문이다.

그런데 오늘 국힘당 혁신 위원장으로 뽑힌 인요한씨가 모 TV에 나와 인터뷰 중에 이 표현을 썼다. “대한민국 사람들은 세상에서 제일 똑똑해요. 다 알고 있어요, 문제점을~~…하면 되요~~…” 즉 그의 말은 한국인들의 IQ는 세상에서 제일 높아서, 모르는 게 없다는 것이다. IQ와 똑똑하다를 구분 못한 것 같다. 어쨌든 그의 말은 언뜻 들으면 칭찬 같다. 천만의 말씀. 미국 일본을 포함 선진국 사람들은 알면서도 행동을 하지 않는 건 비겁한 이중인격자(二重人格者)로 취급한다. 불명예 중의 불명예이다.

그들이 욕하는 NATO족은 문자 그대로 자기 생각은 밝히되, 즉 말만 하고 행동은 안 하는 자를 뜻한다. 그래서 비겁하다는 것이다. 이들이 말하는 비겁함(트레산테스)은 주인의식(主人意識)이 강한 민족에게는 매우 치명적(致命的) 언어이다. 개인의 명예를 넘어 가문(家門)의 명예 그리고 국가의 명예가 포함되기 때문이다. 따라서 위원장의 표현은 한국인들은 나토족보다도 못한, 더 비겁하고 비열하고 교활하다는 의미가 다 포함됐다는 뜻일 수 있다. 왜냐면 똑똑해서 다 알고는 있지만, 행동은커녕 말조차도 겁이 나서 못 하거나 안 하기 때문이다. 공짜심리와 같다. 한마디로 노예근성이란 뜻이다.

제발 그랬으면 좋겠다. 그의 말대로 한국인들이 정말 세상에서 제일 똑똑했으면 좋겠다. 똑똑하다는 의미는 총명(聰明)하고 명석(明晳)하다는 것이다. IQ가 높다거나, 머리가 좋다거나 눈치가 빠르다는 것과는 본질에서 다르다. 여기에는 반역자, 사기꾼, 거짓말쟁이 은혜를 원수로 갚는 자들이 포함되지만, ‘똑똑(총명, 명석)하다’에는 부정적 의미는 없고 긍정적 의미만 있다. 첫째, 매사에 공(公)과 사(私)가 확실하고 Yes, No가 투명하며, 피아식별(彼我識別)과 선악(善惡) 개념이 분명하다. 물론 자기 나라를 소중히 여기며 은혜를 잊지 않는 기본 윤리와 도덕이 갖춰져 있음이 포함된다.

이를 고려할 때 과연 그가 한국인의 고질적(痼疾的) 기질(氣質), 근성(곤조)을 바꿀 수 있을까에 대한 의문이 든다. 그도 한국에서 태어나 평생을 살았기에 하는 말이다. 한국인들은 자기 나라 태극기, 건국일과 건국자를 부정한다. 나아가 한국인들은 자기 나라를 침략했고, 지금도 그 연장선상에서 핵공격 위협을 하고 사사건건 내정 간섭을 하는 북한과 중공을 적으로 생각하지 않는다. 오히려 실질적인 친구이며 동맹인 미국과 일본은 욕한다. 하물며 한국인들은 북한과 중공을 추종할 정도를 넘어 굴종하는 정치인(세력)을 지지한다. 자그마치 한국인 유권자(有權者) 절반이나 된다는 이 사실을 어떻게 설명할 것인가. 이를 모를 리 없는 그가 “대한민국 사람들은 세상에서 제일 똑똑해요.”라고 말했다. 부디 공인일언중천금(公人一言重千金)이 실언(失言)이 되지 않기를 간절히 소망한다.

the difference between smart and sneaky

I'm wary about the typical great Korean reviews. It's quite awkward to hear. One of them is that Koreans have the world's highest IQ. In general, all Koreans are intelligent. Koreans are well-versed in all fields. Koreans have a sharp wit. Koreans can adapt to any environment. And so forth. In talks with foreigners, these idioms were frequently heard and clarified. This is due to the fact that there are much too many pieces that do not fit into common sense or logic.

In Yo-han, the newly elected head of the governing party's innovation committee, claimed that Koreans are the world's smartest people, aware of issues and only needing to act. However, this statement raises doubts as it doesn't distinguish between IQ and intelligence. In industrialized nations, such as the US and Japan, not acting while knowing it is considered a cowardly second personality, a dishonor.

NATO people are often criticized for their cowardice, as they only speak and do not act, which is considered a harmful term for those with a strong sense of ownership. This can be seen as implying that Koreans are more cowardly than NATO guys, as they are intelligent and know everything but are afraid to talk or act, which signifies enslavement. This expression may be a reflection of the Korean people's fear and inability to act independently.

I hope Koreans are the brightest and most intellectual people on the planet, with the term "smart" referring to intelligence and brilliance. It is distinct from cunning or quick-witted, which can be seen as traitors, liars, and fraudsters. The word "smart" has a positive meaning, as it signifies certainty about everything, distinguishing between adversaries and allies, and understanding good and evil. It also involves about fundamental principles and morals of nation-loving and grace.

Given this, I'm curious if he can alter the chronic mindset and grit of Koreans. Koreans reject their country's flag, National Foundation Day, and founder. Furthermore, South Koreans do not regard North Korea and China as foes because they invaded their nations and continue to threaten nuclear assaults and intervene in domestic issues. Koreans do rather blame their friends, the United States and Japan. Furthermore, South Koreans favor politicians who follow values of North Korea and China. Half of Korean voters do so. I'm curious how he'll explain this. Anyway, he claimed, "South Koreans are the smartest people in the world." As a responsible public person, I hope his remarks will not be a joke.
