클낭을 끌고 집에서 나올 땐 마치 우리나라에서 나 혼자만 세계 여행을 떠나는 기분이다. 공항행 지하철을 타면 마치 서울 시민 절반이 여행을 떠나는 것 같다. 통로에 크고 작은 여행 가방들이 줄을 잇는다. 대단하다. 코타키나발루행 탑승 게이트에 가니 모두가 한국인들이다. 가족끼리, 친구끼리 단체여행 등 다양했다. 특히 눈에 띄는 건 골프여행자들이었다. 우리 옆에 앉았던 4명의 50-60대 여성분들도 골프여행자들이었다. 10일간 투어란다. 남편들은 남자들끼리 가는 것이 서로 편해서 그렇게 한단다. 태국과 어떤 차이가 있느냐고 했더니 태국이 여러 면에서 더 좋단다. 그런데 왜 코타까지 가느냐고 했더니 태국엔 이미 오래전에 예약이 끝난 상태였다고. 역시 대단한 한국인들이다.

탑승 후 승무원에게 물었다. 한국인들이 코타에 몇 명이나 가느냐고? 우리가 탄 비행기 정원 176명 만석을 포함, 대략 매일 약 1000명이 코타에 간단다. 코타에도 다낭 태국 일본 등 세계의 수많은 관광지처럼 한국인들이 다 먹여 살린다는 말이 빈말은 아닌 것 같았다. 대단한 한국인들이다. 세계가 다 부러워하는 한국인의 이 엄청난 능력을 한국인만 모른다는 것도 이상하긴 매한가지. 작년 태국에서 만난 두 명의 외국인 친구들, 이들의 공통 질문이 다시 떠올랐다. “한국인들은 왜 그 무거운 골프채 풀세트를 끌고 외국 골프장으로 가느냐? 한국엔 골프장이 없느냐?”

최근 뉴스에 의하면 코비드 후 외국 여행자 수가 하루 평균 5만 명이 나간다고 한다. 대단한 한국인들이다. 5만 명에서 코타행 1000명을 제외한 4만9000여 명은 전 세계로 흩어져 나간다는 얘기이다. 아무리 생각해도 나를 포함한 한국인들은 축복받은 사람들인 것 같다. 꿈에나 그리던 세계 여행을 언제 어디서나 자신이 원하는 곳을 자유롭게 떠날 수 있는 세상을 살고 있으니 말이다. 이는 개인의 능력만으로 안 된다. 부강한 국가의 여권(旅券)이 뒷받침돼야 가능하다. 그것이 바로 성공한 대한민국의 여권(패스포드)이다. 이런 멋진 大韓民國을 미워하고 욕하고 저주하고 아예 망하기를 바라는 사람들이 국민의 절반이나 된단다. 그런데도 아직 망하지 않고 있는 것은 불가사의(不可思議)다. 참으로 대단한 한국인들이다.

심보가 참 못됐다. 원래 그런 피가 흐르는 민족이 아니고선 있을 수 없는 현상이기 때문이다. 그도 그럴 것이 70년 전이나 50년 전이나 10년 전이나 전혀 변하지 않는 것 중 하나가 바로 남 잘되는 것 싫어하고 성공한 자기 나라를 욕하고 망하길 바라는 것이다. 아무리 많은 교육을 받아도, 정치적 자유와 물질적 풍요를 누려도 이런 집단적 병적(病的) 현상엔 아무런 영향을 미치지 못한다. 세계 역사에서도 보기 드문 위대한 지도자 이승만 대통령과 박정희 대통령을 수백 수천만 명을 굶겨 죽인 스탈린 모택동 김일성보다 더 미워하고 욕한다. 정말 대단한 한국인들이다.

People met on my backpacking 169 – What a starange people they are

In Korea, it's a unique experience to be transported by a suitcase, feeling like I'm traveling the world alone. The subway aisles are filled with suitcases, showcasing the diverse nature of Koreans. At Kota Kinabalu, a group of Koreans, including women in their 50s and 60s, are on a 10-day golf tour. They prefer playing golf together with women than going on a trip with their husbands. The women in their group were amazing Koreans who have no choice but to visit Kota due to the overbooked in Thailand golf field.

Kota is a popular destination for over 1,000 Koreans daily, including 176 passengers on our flight. This trend is similar to the numerous tourist sites in the world, such as Kota, Vietnam, Da Nang, Thailand, and Japan. Koreans are known for their immense power, which the rest of the world admires. One question to me was that "Why Koreans travel to foreign golf courses with heavy clubs, you don't have golf courses in Korea?“

According to current reports, 50,000 Koreans fly overseas each day following COVID-19. They are fantastic Koreans. In other words, around 50,000 Koreans are dispersed throughout the world, including Kota. Koreans, including me, are blessed people. This is due to the fact that we live in a world where we may leave whenever and anywhere we choose on our fantasy journey around the world. Individual talent alone will not enough. It is possible only if a wealthy country's passport is supported. That is the Republic of Korea's successful passport (passed). Ironically, Koreans despise their own great Republic of Korea. They expect Korea to fail. Still, it is a mystery that Korea has not yet been devastated.

I think it's because such bad genes are transmitted into Koreans. This phenomenon hasn't changed at all 70 years ago, 50 years ago, or 10 years ago. Koreans hate other people who live well. Koreans blame their country for making them rich and hope it goes bankrupt. No matter how much education they receive, no matter how much they enjoy political freedom and material abundance, these pathological symptoms do not change. Koreans hate great leaders like President Syngman Rhee and President Park Chung-hee, which are rare in world history. However, Koreans don't curse Stalin, Mo Taek-dong, and Kim Il-sung, who starved millions or tens of millions of people to death. They are truly ungrateful Koreans to be punished by heaven.
