People met on my backpacking 163 - Why is the president so important?
While traversing the world, I have many conversations with individuals of other nationalities, including locals, and this has made me appreciate Korea even more. Rich nations like UK and the U.S. were formerly hostile to my entering, especially in the 1980s and 1990s. They treated me like an undocumented alien. Not to mention Bolivia, Colombia, Thailand, Malaysia, India, and Malaysia. They demanded that I went into my bank accounts, round-trip tickets, and if I had enough cash to pay for my stay. Most of the folks I saw on my backpacking asked me questions similar to this. "Where are from? What kind of place is that? N. Korea? You and your peodple can enjoy world trip?" They treated me just like that.
Thank you very much, Mr President of Yoon Suk Yeol. You touched eight billion people in the world. No, it was shocking. You declared to the world that Korea is no longer a weak country. Korea has definitely become one of the existing countries leading the world order. This means that Korea has reached the rank of strongest from the poorest country in 75 years. You sternly warned against China's barbaric behavior, which has never recognized the Republic of Korea as a sovereign state in its 5,000-year history. I'm really happy. I feel like the 1,000-year-old congestion has gone down.
Except for a few countries, including the United States, no country has dared to tackle the worldwide gangster CCP like President Yoon Seok-yeol this time. Only South Korea has explicitly warned China about constructing artificial islands in the sea and claiming them as its own. South Korea would no longer allow China's crimes in unlawfully sweeping fish in the West Sea of Korea and elsewhere in the sea. This was the message that 150 of the world's poorest countries really wanted to send.
I went to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan with my wife for a month in May 2023. Everywhere we went, everyone we met envied Korea. Everyone said they wanted to go to Korea. We also met people who are living well with the money they earned from working in Korea for a few years. We also met some people from Malawi and Venezuela in Africa who we met at our hotel. They were so envious of Korea, too. I feel very proud of Korea when I have this experience. That's why I can't help but cherish and love my Republic of Korea.
There was also the opposite experience. It was 2004 when I visited South America for the second time. It was after President Roh Moo Hyun visited Buenos Aires. Foreigners as well as Koreans I met in Buenos Aires at the time criticized South Korea for Roh's pro-N. Korea policy. The same was true under President Moon. It was due to his blatant anti-Japanese and anti-American policies. Therefore, most free democrats who sensed his pro-N. Korea and pro-CCP attitude treated the ROK with distrust. This atmosphere can only be known when talking to them in person.
In this sense, a country either improves or lowers its people's self-esteem, depending on which president reigns. President Yoon Suk Yeol's assured and beautiful performance at the trilateral meeting at Camp David's villa would undoubtedly instill newfound pride in Koreans. For that, I attempt to communicate with individuals from all over the world as much as possible. This is because it is an exciting and exhilarating delight that can only be felt through communication and cannot be replaced for anything.
Thanks.
